CALL FOR ARTISTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURE SYMPOSIUM

Monumental Sculpture Symposium  “Kaunas – City of Local Ideas” Kaunas, Lithuania | September 8–29, 2025

Lithuanian artists‘ association Kaunas department invites sculptors to participate in the International Sculpture Symposium 2025, during which Kaunas’ public spaces will be enriched with striking monumental granite sculptures. This symposium is dedicated to Kaunas Modernism – the Architecture of Optimism, recently inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

About the Symposium
During the symposium, 10 original granite sculptures by ten artists will be created near the Ąžuolynas Public librabry, contributing to the enhancement of the city’s architectural and cultural identity.

What kind of proposals are we looking for?
We invite projects that creatively interpret both the tangible and intangible heritage of Kaunas Modernism.

 

What we offer:

  • A 2 cubic meter granite (Curu Grey) block for each selected artist
  • Fully provided necessary materials and tools for sculpture production
  • An honorarium of  8,000 EUR per artist
  • Full Technical support provided to selected to participate artists
  • Accomodation, meals, and partially covered travel expenses*
    *depending on the amount

 

How to apply (deadline: July 23, 2025):
Please submit the following documents by email to info@ldskaunas.lt with the subject line: “International Sculpture Symposium 2025”

Applicants are requested to submit the following documents:

  • Project proposal, including visualizations, sketches and other relevent material (PDF or JPG format)
  • Concept description outlining the artistic idea and its implementation
  • Portfolio of previous works (maximum file size: 10 MB)

 

Selection process
An expert committee will evaluate all applications based on creativity, feasibility, and thematic relevance. Ten artists will be selected and provided with full funding and detailed project guidelines.
